Novice Men
The EUBC Novice Men’s program focuses on developing beginner rowers through our high-performance program to create a strong team of competitive athletes. The squad has seen success at University events around the country in both the winter head season and summer regattas. Our Novices also attend Henley Royal Regatta to follow in the footsteps of fellow EUBC athletes who learnt to row with Edinburgh, two of whom famously claimed victory in The Prince Albert Challenge Cup 2016.
The Novice Men’s squad has consistently dominated national beginner rowing competitions, taking home multiple gold, silver and bronze medals at both BUCS fours and eights head and BUCS regatta in 8+, 4+ and 4x categories. Last year, the squad won the 8+ category at BUCS regatta by a large margin of clear water, took home gold and silver respectively in the 8+ and 4x category at BUCS head, and smashed their way through HORR to claim a well-deserved Gold.
This year, our novices saw off strong competition through-out the year, including coming 0.1 of a second off a gold medal at HORR 2018. In the summer of 2019, five of our squad joined forces with the Senior Men’s squad to compete in the PA Challenge where they fought off a large group of senior crews, just missing out on qualifying. This was a huge feat for those five athletes who had only seven months of rowing experience and showed in practice the strength of this year’s Novice Men’s team.
Rowing with EUBC enables athletes to push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and to challenge themselves individually, as well as a team. Our diverse training sessions help build confidence and independency, as well as other priceless life-skills that our rowers gain through the program and carry into their future endeavours.
The success and determination of our Novice squads each year comes from the family bond created within EUBC and is what makes our winning program stand out from the crowd in our strive for athletic excellence and sporting victory.
