Notable Highlights

Our Alumni Hall of Fame

Since it was first established in 1867, Edinburgh has focused on producing high-quality athletes from a beginner to a professional level.

What have we been doing recently?

As well as focusing on the success of individuals who flourish under the Edinburgh programme, it is important to recognise our achievements as a team.

We pride ourselves on the collaborative dynamic between all our squads, with senior rowers often assisting the coaching of beginners to build a united front from the very start of the rowing journey.

Recent years have seen the boat club reach new levels of success across all levels, culminating in Edinburgh becoming the first and only Scottish university to win the BUCS overall Victor Ludorum in 2022.

This was followed by winning The Chairman’s Trophy at Henley Women's Regatta the same year. This prize goes to the Academic Aspirational coxless quad, a category the EUBC women took by storm in the 2022 year.

2025 saw the introduction of the Scott Skirving Trophy at the Head of the River Race. This recognises the success of our men's squad, who came together from smaller boats during the GB Trials season to bring home the win.

The beginner rowing programme has scored notable achievements under the guidance of Mike Hughes, with 2025 making it the third year in a row winning the Frank V Harry Cup in the Development Coxed Four at Henley Women's Regatta. Other success from the Beginner squad can be seen in the collection of BUCS medals they have scored in the past few years, along with the repeated win of the beginner pennant of WEHORR.

BUCS Regatta Victor Ludorum 2022

Highlighting the success of the entire club, winning the VL in 2022 demonstrated the depth of the EUBC programme. Beginners, recreational members and seniors alike contributed to this amazing result.

The Chairman's Trophy 2022

Despite focussing on sweep for most of the year, the gamble taken by coach John Higson in 2022 by entering an Aspirational Quad at Henley Women's Regatta absolutely paid off. The crew built on the success since the VL win earlier in the season, winning the event with the verdict 'easily'.

The Scott Skirving Trophy

First introduced to the Head of the River Race this year, our men's first eight took home this trophy for winning the Academic Provincial event in 2025.

The Frank V Harry Cup

Since Mike Hughes joined our coaching team five years ago, he has quickly established EUBC as a power house for Beginner rowing in the UK.

The Development Coxed Four category has been dominated by Edinburgh boats, with EUBC athletes taking home the prize in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
