Novice Women

Our Novice Women’s Squad is one of the most successful Beginner Squads in the country. In just 9 months our programme takes complete beginners and transforms them into competitive athletes who become a force to be feared. Previous NW have gone on to row for our Senior Women’s Squad, win Henley Women’s Regatta and we recently had a former EUBC beginner win bronze at the World Rowing Championships.

We can take you from complete novice to a national medallist in only a few months with our training programme, world class coaching and facilities. Most of our water training is based on the Union Canal at the EUBC Boat House and throughout the season we train at Strathclyde Country Park, a world class facility home to our Senior Rowers. Land training takes place at the University’s Pleasance Sport Complex & Gym, where we have our Dame Katherine Grainger Rowing Gym. Our typical training programme consists of ergs, strength and conditioning, x-train and water.

Our NW had an undefeated 8+ season in 2017/18 finishing off their season with a BUCs Regatta WB8+ win, 12 seconds above the field and took home silver in the WB4+. At the most recent BUCs Regatta 2018/19, our NW took home the Gold in the WB4+, 8 seconds ahead of the field proving their strength and determination as they came from behind, in classic EUBC style. They also collected a Silver in the WB8+, 0.04 seconds off of Gold, but fought from fourth to earn their spot on the podium, once again proving that they are the true force on the water. Our NW have also been able to compete at Henley Women’s Regatta, finishing in the top 8 of the Developmental Coxed 4+ at HWR 2019, competing against more experienced crews and being one of the only full beginner crews to qualify, a true testament to their strength.

One of the main reasons I think our Beginner Women’s Squad has been able to be as successful as they have, is due to the determination of our athletes. Rowing is the only sport you can see your opposition when you are winning and it requires the ultimate battle to the line. You get out of the sport what you put into it and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your commitment, dedication and hard work pay off in order to gain the title of Best Beginner Squad in the country.
