FACILITIES

Facilities
As one of ten Performance Sport Programmes at the University, as well as one of six university High Performance Programmes recognised by British Rowing, EUBC has access to top class facilities, coaching and equipment. We currently have four full time coaches, three of whom work with our Senior Squads, as well as additional support from the university's Performance S&C coaches, sports psychologists, nutritionists, and the FASIC Sports Injuries Clinic.

Over the past six years almost £400,000 has been invested into racing shells for the club, through our close partnership with Hudson. Senior squads have access to an extensive fleet of singles through to eights, including USPs in every class. Off the water, we have our very own Dame Katherine Grainger rowing gym in the university sports complex, with over 50 Concept2 ergs, as well as RP3s, WattBikes, and enough sliders to have two eights rowing at once.
Pleasance Sport Complex & Gym

Pleasance is reputedly one of the best university gyms in the UK, and where our very own Dame Katherine Grainger rowing gym with too many ergos to count can be found. Most of our land training for all four squads takes place here, and S&C also takes place either in the Performance Gym in Pleasance (famously used by the All Blacks while on tour) or in St Leonards Land, which is just around the corner.

Strathclyde Country Park

Strathclyde Park is a man-made loch near Glasgow which is home to the Scottish Rowing Centre. The loch is fitted out as a 2km, 6 lane regatta course which hosts the Scottish Championships, as well as the British Rowing Championships every 4 years. This is where our Senior squads train on the water, and where the majority of the fleet is kept. Our new boathouse is currently being built at Strathclyde.

The Boathouse

The old EUBC boathouse is located in Meggetland, on the Union Canal that runs through South West Edinburgh. This is where our Recreational rowers train, as well as where our Novices first learn to row.

Getting to the boathouse is easy by bus. From the bus stop near Bristo Square at the top of the Quarter Mile (opposite Doctors) you can catch the 10, 27 or 45 which come every 15 minutes or so. After you cross a small roundabout keep your eyes open for a row of shops on the left including a pub called The Kilted Pig. You can get off at this stop or the next on if you miss it. Then simply cross the road, go over the bridge over the canal, and down the stairs to the water where you will find the boathouse.

It’s also easy to reach by bike or on foot.
